The 5th Connectathon of the HL7 Hong Kong FHIR® Connectathon Series took place on October 21, 2024, at the HK Productivity Centre. The event was a resounding success, characterized by a rich and engaging agenda. The focus of this Connectathon was on “Laboratory Record (General) & Laboratory Record (Anatomical Pathology),” attracting a large number of participants and filling the venue to capacity.
The event began with a welcome speech by Mr. Pascal Tse, Vice Chairman of HL7 HK, setting a positive tone for the day. Following this, Ms. Louise Wong, Health Informatics Analyst I at the Hospital Authority, provided an update on the development of eHealth+. She highlighted the nine core functions of eHealth+ that support personal governance processes, offering valuable insights into the system’s advancements.
Next, Mr. John Mok and Ms. Jo Shum, both from the Hospital Authority, delivered an insightful briefing on the datasets for Laboratory Record (General) & Laboratory Record (Anatomical Pathology). They explained various lab reporting models, the eHR recognized terminology for standardizing laboratory data, and the processes for sharing general laboratory and anatomical pathology data. Their presentation was detailed yet accessible, making complex topics easy to understand.
The final presentation was given by Mr. Michael Cheung, HL7 HK Technical Advisor and Systems Manager at the Hospital Authority. He shared practical knowledge on FHIR mapping for laboratory records, using various case studies to highlight key considerations and potential challenges. His insights were highly practical and well-received by the audience.
Throughout the event, participants were deeply engaged and enthusiastic. They posed insightful questions to the speakers, fostering dynamic interactions that underscored the community’s excitement for the upcoming Connectathon.
